Questions & Answers
How do I know which scholarship applications are currently available?
- Check the scholarship lists posted in the following places: Guidance Office, HCS website and on the Guidance Office “senior” bulletin board in the main hall.
- Listen to daily announcements.
- Stop by the Guidance Office to look through the scholarship files (located under the sign-in table, below the dry-erase board).
- By providing your e-mail address to the Guidance Office you can be e-mailed the current list periodically.
How will the guidance office help with scholarship applications?
- Scholarship applications can be obtained on the HCS website and paper copies will be available in the Guidance Office. Students should fill them out and send them out on their own.
- Certain scholarships should be returned to the Guidance Office when completed. For these scholarships, “RETURN TO THE GUIDANCE OFFICE” will be specifically indicated in the directions or on the application.
- Guidance Counselor Kate Fenlong will answer any questions a student may have about a scholarship application, review the application and/or essay and write a letter of recommendation, if requested.
- The Guidance Office will provide transcripts upon request. The Transcript Request Form is available online. Copies are also available in the Guidance Office. Please allow three business days for processing.
What are student responsibilities
- Obtain letters of recommendation from teachers (sealed recommendations are more “official”). The Letter of Recommendation Request Form is available online. Copies are also available in the Guidance Office.
- Request transcripts using the Transcript Request Form (sealed transcripts are official and should not be opened by a student; simply include the sealed transcript with other application materials).
- Write essays (high school English teachers or Guidance Counselor Kate Fenlong will be glad to review student scholarship essays).
- Compile required information for each scholarship application.
- Send out scholarships by the deadline date (unless it specifically states to return to the Guidance Office).
The deadline dates for scholarships vary slightly from year to year. The deadline dates listed will give you a rough idea when scholarships will be due. We will not know the actual deadline dates until we receive the new scholarship applications.
